Chikin Ha Cenote is at ten minutes drive from Puerto Aventuras to south on Highway 307, Mexico
Meaning of Chikin Ha is "Western Water". It is on upstream of Ponderosa. Actually, the 2 cave systems are separated by just a small area and on your arrival the first cenote you will see is Cenote Xtabay that is in fact a branch of the Ponderosa cave system. Additionally, Xtabay has a big cavern region that can be dived but no lasting cavern line therefore it’s an excellent place for divers to practice line laying skills with their reel.
You will come to Chikin Ha if you continue on the path beyond Xtabay. Chikin Ha is actually a very big half moon cenote having crystal clear water and a huge undercut ceiling.

In the open water of Chikin Ha the permanent guideline starts and passes over to Cenote Arcoiris through a big halocline tunnel. The line runs alongside the border of the cenote at Arcoiris offering you a grand view of huge breakdown formations and the calcite rafting. After that the permanent line comes back to Chikin Ha on the back area of the halocline tunnel when you go around and over huge breakdown piles ornamented with speleothems, crystal formations and fossils. The line ends at end of the cenote exactly from where you got in and you can either swim back to the initial entry place on the surface or exit here admiring the several multicolored birds which reside in and near the cenote.

See racquet tail feathers, iridescent turquoise plumage, the Motmot, with its typical call and the Mayan cenote bird.
