About Grand Cancun Eco Island
CONCEPT
In the year 2020, Cancún, the capital of tourism in the Mayan Riviera, will celebrate its 50th founding anniversary. To honor the city and its people, Arch. Richard Moreta Castillo has created a complex that will serve as a city landmark, a multifunctional memorial sculpturally adapted from the meaning of “kaan kun” (Nest of Snakes) and the magical legend of the Mayan Serpent God. The design contributes to the myth and raises the serpent from the water to infinity, representing the extraordinary fusion of the Mayan people and their new metropolis, projecting the pride of its residents, amplifying the interest of its visitors and serving as a platform for business and finance.
His architect has been involved in green architecture for a long time and is known for several eco-projects, like the Wind Tower (Egg tower), or the Creative Container Solutions for “Emergency Architecture”. Now he is coming with this concept and ventures to solve various coastal problems afflicting the city of Cancun while envisioning a jaw-dropping resort.
Grand Cancún will be a mega-building, an offshore city standing on stilts where hotels, shopping malls, convention-congress centers, cinemas and loads more will provide the ultimate experience in conventions and hospitality, while being totally self-sufficient, having a zero-carbon-footprint, and providing drinking water and energy for the city from renewable resources!
Like a serpent rising to heavens, the sinuous silhouette of GRAND CANCÚN Tower and Platform will be more than anything you ever imagine, the symbol of the new CANCÚN and the jewel of the Caribbean Seas, harboring the BEST services and facilities, providing its guests with an experience that will transform their lives.
This magnificent destination will offer you the chance to learn about the local ecology and support the sustainability of our planet while rejoicing in an Eden-like environment.
It will set new standards around the globe about what is possible in a resort, and will change the way we see our holidays forever.
FEATURES
Grand Cancún will generate surplus of clean, local renewable energy and alleviate to some extend the city’s energy needs. Solar panels will cover most of light-facing areas, including see-through photovoltaic polymers on transparent surfaces. Every residential block on the tower will have vertical wind turbines and solar panels. These solutions will avoid the “environmental visual pollution” of wind power turbines taking over immense areas of the sea, and it will incorporate the wind and solar power systems as architectural elements into a “vertical master plan concept design”. There are also underwater energy collectors of tidal and wave energy.
But the most interesting thing is that it will clean the seas! The shape of the building, its private beach and waterfront, and the coast will direct water right through waste collectors for floating solids and hydrocarbons. The water will be also nourished and purified to increase marine life. Above the water everything is planned to care for the environment, and about motivating people to share the responsibility.
The first level of the platform would hold a marine biology laboratory and an environmental studies/sustainable energy university department, together with a large inverse-osmosis desalination plant that provides with will provide drinking water for all the users of the complex and some for the community. All rainwater will be collected and reused. Wastewater will be recycled, purified and reused for gardens.
"Best of the world" in hospitality
