About Isla Mujeres
Small in size but overflowing with charm, beautiful beaches, a peaceful atmosphere and historical sites, the picturesque island of Isla Mujeres is a utopian delight. Meaning “the island of women” in Spanish, this former fishing village is now a laid-back wonderland full of things to do both in and out of the water.
Isla Mujeres is only five miles long and no more than half a mile wide meaning it is fairly easy to navigate. The most popular, and fun, way to get around the small island is by way of a golf cart. Multiple companies are set up to rent golf carts for just a couple hours or for a few days. Head to Punta Sur on the south end of the island where you'll find a temple honoring the Mayan Moon goddess set atop the highest elevation point in the Yucatan. Climb to the top of the lighthouse located here for breathtaking views or visit Garrafón Reef Park, home to an outdoor sculpture garden. From May through September visit the turtle conservation farm and watch the giant, protected sea turtles nest and lay their eggs. It is Just a wonderful paradise close to Cancun. I went in Isla Mujeres like my last stop in Mexican Caribbean and was perfect just finishing there! The island is beautiful and you have amazing beaches. The clear water, white sand, empty beaches (more far away from town), vegetation and animals makes it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a paradise vacations.
You should do diving or snorkel, rent a bike, motorbike or golf car and drive around, is a pretty small island! When you get inside water you will see beautiful fishes, turtles, big mantas, and sharks (not the dangerous ones).
You have a great variety of restaurants and some bars in the island; you will not find crazy night parties. It’s perfect to enjoy the beautiful of nature and rest, relax!

Wow, what an amazing island! I had heard about Isla Mujeres but wasn't sure I wanted to go because of how close it is to Cancun and that wasn't really the kind of vacation that we were looking for. But I'm so glad we went! You don't need a car to get around, you can walk most places downtown or do what we did and rent a golf cart for the week. We were able to go all the way around the island and stop whenever we wanted. Food and drinks were awesome at Monchies and breakfast at La Cazuela. We did a unforgettable day trip and swam with the whale sharks - we saw almost as many manta rays as the sharks! Isla Mujeres is definitely on our list of places to return to someday soon.

Isla Mujeres is interesting place to visit especially if you are fond of diving and you would like to see the turtle conservation farm. I went to Isla Mujeres by ferry. The price for the round trip ticket is 220 pesos for one adult. On the island you can rent a golf cart. There is no necessity to rent the car on the board of the ferry there are a lot of car rentals near the maritime terminal on Isla Mujeres. The turtles population suffers a lot from the tourists that's why a conservation turtle farm was opened on this Island. If you travel to the beaches around Cancun that aren't in touristic zone you will notice a lot of little areas marked with wooden sticks or something else. These are the zones where turtles laid their eggs. In such way residents protect the turtles population.
If you want to see turtles, practice diving, admire an underwater sea world, visit an unique underwater museum, buy souvenirs you can go to Isla Mujeres.
