From a humble start, Playa del Carmen International Clinic has attained international standard. The clinic kicked off operation in 1995 with the installation in Playa del Carmen of a hyperbaric chamber by Subaquatic Safety Services' Bureo Medico Mexicano. It was originally set up to attend to decompression illness that many divers used to experience.

Today, Playa del Carmen International Clinic has advanced significantly and is now a modern medical facility. Divers are no longer the singular focus of its operation. But the clinic still has a dive medical team comprising certified dive medical technicians, qualified tenders and operators, diving physicians and hyperbaric safety directors.

Playa del Carmen International Clinic now attends to different types of patients. Divers, non-divers, locals or tourists can be given medical attention. High-tech equipment such as cardiac monitors, life support mechanism and video diagnostic apparatus are available. There is a fully-equipped overnight patient room and an up-to-date X-ray department. Two physicians are usually available round the clock to attend to injuries and illnesses.
